he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) asserted that jerseys received by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono from visiting soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo should not be reported to the commission.
'The jerseys are not gifts that should be reported to the commission as stipulated under Law No.31/1999 on corruption eradication and Law No.30/2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK),' said KPK spokesperson Johan Budi on Wednesday as quoted by Kompas.com.
'But if Pak SBY wants to report them to the commission, please go ahead,' he added.
Johan said the gifts presented to Yudhoyono and his wife were different than the one recently accepted by DKI governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
'The bass guitar accepted by Jokowi came from a production house planning to hold a Metallica concert in Jakarta, not directly from the band member, Robert Trujillo,' said Johan, adding that it was Jokowi himself that reported the gift to the commission.
Yudhoyono took a picture with Real Madrid player, Cristiano Ronaldo, after attending the Save the Mangroves, Save the Earth event at Tanjung Benoa in Bali on Wednesday. He was seen holding a jersey emblazoned with his name 'SBY' and Ronaldo's favorite number '7' which had been signed by the Portuguese footballer.
The First Lady, Ani Yudhoyono, also held a jersey emblazoned with name 'Ani' and signed by Ronaldo.
Their sons, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono were also seen in the picture but not holding similar jerseys. The picture was posted by Edhie Baskoro on his Twitter account. (hrl/ebf)
