A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Malang, East Java, on Monday at 9:13 a.m. local time, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
'The quake's epicenter was in the Indian Ocean, about 112 kilometers from Malang or 202 kilometers from Surabaya,' said National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, as quoted by Antara news agency.
BNPB's Malang Office also reported the quake lasted for up to 5 seconds and was felt by residents in Malang, but no major damage was reported. (apt)
