ustoms and Excise officers at Soekarno-Hatta InternationalAirport have foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.06kilograms of crystal methamphetamine worth Rp 4 billion into the countryand have named a Taiwanese a suspect.
Airportcustoms chief Okto Irianto said the suspect, identified as Li, was Taiwanese,was visiting the country for the first time and only spoke Chinese.
"We'refacing difficulties getting information from him due to the absence of aninterpreter," Okto said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Hesaid the suspect flew on a Cathay Pacific flight from HongKong and arrived at the airport on July 5.
AirportPolice officer Comr. Guntur M. Tariq said the suspect was only a courierwho was asked to give the drugs to someone in a hotel in West Jakarta.
"Hewas only given a cell phone number of the receiver, whom he had to call assoon as he arrived at the hotel," he said.
Hesaid that according to preliminary questioning, when leaving HongKong, the suspect was also carrying a hotel voucher thatwas valid for two days and a return ticket. (dic)
