angka Belitung (Babel) Governor Eko Maulana Ali died at the age of 61 at the Metropolitan Medical Center in Jakarta on Tuesday at 12:35 a.m., an official says.
Babel Tourism and Culture Agency head Yan Megawandi said the late governor died of an illness he had suffered for years.
Yan said that Eko's body was scheduled to be flown from Jakarta to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang, the capital of Babel province, on Tuesday morning.
'We are currently waiting for his remains for burial,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Eko was elected the Babel governor for the 2007-2013 period after beating current Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama in the 2007 gubernatorial race. (hrl)
