National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) team has departed for Gorontalo and is scheduled to arrive at Jalaluddin Airport at around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
The airport's flight safety division chief Isnan L. said the authority had dispatched a Wings Air aircraft to pick up the KNKT team.
'The team, including equipment to evacuate the [Lion Air] aircraft that skidded on the runway, will be picked up at Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado, North Sulawesi,' said Isnan as quoted by Antara news agency.
Lion Air aircraft with flight number JT-892 carrying 110 passengers, including five babies and seven crew members including pilot Iwan Permadi and co-pilot Faisal Hasnan, skidded on the runway at around 9 p.m. local time on Tuesday after it hit three cows that had crossed the runway.
The KNKT team will carry out an examination and attend a meeting with the Gorontalo administration and several related parties as soon as it arrives in Gorontalo.
Both the plane and the remains of the cows are still on the runway.
Jalaluddin Airport is temporarily closed and six flights have been cancelled on Wednesday due to the incident. (ebf)
