Senior actor Kris Biantoro dies aged 70

Senior singer, actor and presenter Christophorus '€œKris Biantoro'€ Soebiantoro has died at the age of 70.

Kompas.com reported that he passed away in his house in the Bukit Permai Residence housing complex in Cibubur, East Jakarta.

Born on March 17, 1938 in Magelang, Central Java, Kris was famous for his greeting '€œMerdeka'€ (freedom) as a host or presenter. He earned the status of veteran as a volunteer to free West Papua while a student at Atma Jaya University in Jakarta.

He leaves behind wife Maria Nguyen Kim Dung, a Vietnamese whom he met while working at the Indonesian Embassy in Australia in the early 1970s, sons Invianto and Ceasefiarto and several grandchildren.

No information has been released regarding the cause of death or the funeral. (apt/dic)
