he fifth Jakarta-Japan (JakJapan) Matsuri (Japanese word for festival) is set to take place on Sept.1 to 8. This year's festival will feature various Japanese art and culture as well as a sports competition.
'What will be different this year is that the festival will also feature a parade of police forces from five countries: Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, the US, and Vietnam. They will march from the National Monument to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle,' Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yoshinori Katori, told reporters after meeting with Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo at City Hall on Monday.
The festival will be held at several venues, including the National Monument and Plaza Senayan.
Visitors can enjoy various cultural and musical performances, including from AKB48's 'sister group' JKT48 and pop star Agnes Monica, during the closing ceremony on Sept.8.
'We expect to attract up to 35,000 visitors,' said Katori.
Jokowi said the festival would feature not only Japanese but also Betawi cultural performances. (ebf)
