ureaucrats at regional administration level should no longer view archives as a necessary evil because a good archive management could protect Indonesia's wealth and assets, Widarno of the Indonesian National Archive Agency (ANRI) said on Tuesday.
In a meeting to disseminate Law No. 43/2009 on archives, the director of regional archives at ANRI said that local bureaucrats should be aware of the importance of a good archiving system.
"Archives are not just historical heritage, but they are the authentic evidence of government activities, representing the facts that had happened," he said.
He said that many of disputes involving state assets, for example, stemmed from the lack of protection for documents or archives showing ownership of those assets causing the state at a loss in the eyes of law.
