est Nusa Tenggara Governor M. Zainul Majdi officially inaugurated M AliDachlan and Khaerul Warisin as East Lombok regent and deputy regent on Fridayfor the 2013-2018 term.
Zainul said that the inauguration ceremony was the last phase of East Lombok elections, the outcome of which should be respected for the sake of democracy.
'We hope that people in the region will support the programs under the new administration to build a better East Lombok regency in the future,' the governor said.
He added that East Lombok had a population of 1.2 million people, the highest among the nine regencies and municipalities in West Nusa Tenggara province.
Ali and Khaerul, who ran for office as independents, won the local election, beating the other four pair of candidates, including the incumbents, M Sukiman Azmy and Syamsul Luthfi.
'Our leadership will always welcome criticism and input from the public. East Lombok is a 'heaven' for freedom of expression as long as it is in line with the existing local norms,' Ali said during the inauguration ceremony. (hrl)
