The Jayapura fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire in no time. As many as seven of the boat'€™s crew members were summoned by the Jayapura City Police for questioning.

'€œWe need to find out what exactly happened before the fire, including the roles of the crew,'€ Papua police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Gede Sumertha Jaya said on Wednesday.

The boat, purchased in 2008 and worth Rp 42 billion, belongs to the provincial administration.  The 63-meter-long and 12-meter-wide ferry is able to accommodate 350 people. (dic)
