Muslim leader has said that the key to resolving the country's multi-faceted problems was an adherence to the teachings of the Koran.
Chairman of the Koran Interpretation Council (MTA), Ahmad Sukino, said the country currently suffered from chronic ailments and the sacred text was the only cure.
'The Koran is the panacea. By implementing the teachings in it, the country will be cured,' Sukino said in his speech during an open-air event held at the Istora Sports Complex in Central Jakarta over the weekend.
Vice President Boediono and Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo were present at the event.
In May, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Golkar lawmaker Zulkarnaen Djabar to 15 years in prison for corruption in the Koran-procurement budget at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Zulkarnaen, who served on House Commission VIII, which oversees religious affairs, was named a suspect in July 2012 for bid-rigging in a project to procure Korans for the Religious Affairs Ministry, among other projects.
