ational Police detectives arrested Papua's former Merauke regent, Johannes Gluba Gebze, in Jakarta on Monday evening for his alleged involvement in a corruption case.
'He was arrested at the Shangri-La Hotel around 8:30 p.m.' National Police corruption crimes director Brig. Gen. Idham Azis said on Monday.
Idham said that Johanes, who led the regency between 2005 and 2010, was a suspect in the misappropriation of crocodile skin souvenir procurement.
The procurement resulted in Rp 18.5 billion (US$1.6 million) in state losses.
'He [Johanes] is being questioned at National Police Corruption Crime Directorate,' Idham continued.
