Indonesian Haj Health Service (BPHI) Jeddah head Masrip Sarumpaet, who is responsible for the health-related matters of Indonesian haj pilgrims visiting Arafah, said two pilgrims died of heart attacks while the remaining died of respiratory problems.

He further said four people had to undergo medical treatment at a Saudi Arabian hospital shortly after Indonesian haj pilgrims arrived in Arafat.

'The four patients are being treated at Jabal Rahmah Hospital,' said Masrip on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency. He said the hospital was located within the Arafah area so as to not disrupt activities on 9 Dzulhijjah or a day before Idul Adha.

Masrip said one haj pilgrim had to leave Arafah to undergo a hemodialysis procedure at Annur Hospital. 'The pilgrim has returned to Arafah, however,' he said.

According to the Haj Integrated Computerized System for Health Sector, the number of Indonesian haj pilgrims who have died this current haj season has reached 72 people as of Monday. The number of haj pilgrims who underwent outpatient medical treatment had reached 1,005, while 585 pilgrims underwent inpatient medical treatment.

The last group of Indonesian haj pilgrims arrived in Arafah at around 10 p.m. local time, on Sunday. (ebf)
