Delegations from around 50 countries are expected to take part in the World Coral Reef Conference (WCRC) to be held in Manado, North Sulawesi, in May 2014.
"Initial preparations have been made such as coordination with related ministries like the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry and the Office of the Chief Minister for People's Welfare," head of the provincial Maritime and Fishery Service Office, Ronald Sorongan, said in Manado on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Ronald said the WCRC was a summit meeting of countries with coral reefs from around the world to discuss the use of coral reefs for human life and ways to preserve them.
"The participants are expected to be those who took part in the world maritime conference also held in this city several years ago," he said, expecting ministers and other high ranking officials from the 50 countries to attend the conference.
The WCRC was part of the fifth annual celebration of the world maritime conference and Coral Triangle Initiative, he said.
