Gatot denies all accusations on murder case

G

atot Supiartono, a non-active Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) senior auditor who had been held as a suspect in the murder of his second wife, Holy Angela Hayu Winanti, denied all accusations by the police against him, saying he had nothing to do with the murder.

Afrian Bondjol, a lawyer who accompanied Gatot in the premeditated murder case, said his client did not hire anyone to kill his wife and he was in Australia when the incident occurred.

'€œI deny it. That was Surya'€™s [SH] testimony,'€ Afrian said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

The city police detained Gatot on Wednesday night at the Jakarta Police headquarters, after questioning him for 12 hours as a witness.

According to Jakarta Police general crime director Sr. Comr. Slamet Riyanto, Gatot allegedly paid Rp 250 million (US$22,916) to SH, a freelance driver at a hotel in Pecenongan, Central Jakarta, to kill Holy for being demanding to Gatot '€” from an apartment to the divorce of his first wife.

Holy was killed at her apartment in Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Sept. 30.

In order to kill Holy, Gatot allegedly hired SH, who recruited four other people. Gatot and SH became close friends because the latter drove the former several times.

Afrian also denied that Gatot had provided a spare key for SH to get into Holy'€™s room.

However, Afrian admitted that Holy was Gatot'€™s second wife and they were married in an Islamic way. '€œHis marriage with Holy was known by his first wife,'€ he added.

Afrian said he, guaranteeing that Gatot would not escape and remove evidence, would ask the police to release Gatot.

Commenting on Afrian'€™s statement, City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that the police had not received any request from him. '€œIt'€™s his right to make a request, but it'€™s up to the investigators to accept it or not,'€ said Rikwanto on Friday.

Besides Gatot and SH, the police have also arrested AL in relation to the murder case. The police are still searching for two more suspects, R and P. One executor, Elriski Yudhistira, died while he was attempting to escape after killing Holy.

Rikwanto said that for further investigation, the police would summon SH'€™s wife, Holy'€™s foster mother and Gatot'€™s official driver.

SH'€™s wife was questioned once on Thursday, but the police refused to reveal the result as they still needed confirmation from the other suspects.

Holy'€™s foster mother is the person who heard Holy'€™s scream on the phone and asked an apartment security guard to check up what had happened to her.

Rikwanto said the police so far had no plan to summon Gatot'€™s first wife. (nai)
