olitical parties are concerned that problems plaguing the electoral roll, which is due to be released within two weeks, could pave the way for election fraud.
'If the final voters' list [DPT] is still marred with confusion, the 2014 election could be rife with fraud,' Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) secretary-general Tjahjo Kumolo said as quoted by Antara news agency.
The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party said it doubted the General Elections Commission (KPU) would be able to fix all the errors on the list within two weeks.
Gerindra's deputy secretary-general, Aryo Djojohadikusumo, said invalid voter data could be found not only in remote areas but also in Jakarta.
'There are districts in North Jakarta, such as Warakas, Semper and Tanjung Priok, where up to 40,000 voters are ineligible,' he said as quoted by republika.com.
The PDI-P said the KPU should address the issue before the 2014 election, which will take place within the next six months. Tjahjo explained that the political parties that upheld principles of justice and fairness would suffer the most from the situation. 'We don't want the DPT-related problems to affect the PDI-P's performance at the election,' said Tjahjo. 'We have dispatched a verification team to validate the DPT data,' he went on.
