astKalimantan Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Fajar Setiawan says the latest reports regardingthe crash of an Army Mi-17 helicopter in Malinau, North Kalimantan province, thereare 13 fatalities and six survivors in the accident.

'€œThe survivors are two members of the crew and four civilians,'€ he said on Saturday as quoted by Antara news service.

Fajar said the helicopter departed from Tarakan on Saturday morning, heading to Malinau to deliver logistical supplies for border security guards. While on route, the chopper stopped by Aupopin village to pick up 10 civilians who would help the soldiers build a border security post in Malinau.

He said the helicopter lost power while attempting to land at a soccer field near the security post. He said he was still awaiting further reports on the latest situation from the Malinau Police chief.(dic)
