An Army helicopter crashed at Pujungan in Malinau district, North Kalimantan, near the Indonesia-Malaysia border at around 11 a.m. local time on Saturday, an official said.

Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency Nunukan branch Oktavianto confirmed that soldiers had been killed in the crash.

"We are still evacuating the survivors. I cannot reveal the number of victims yet because the evacuation process is still underway," he said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said the helicopter had been delivering logistical supplies from Tarakan in North Kalimantan to border security guards in Malinau.

Chief of border guard security in Nunukan, Lt. Col. Feksi Angi, could not be reached for comment regarding the accident.(dic)
