he West Jakarta District Court adjourned on Tuesday the hearing of adult magazine model Novi Amalia, the defendant in a drunk-driving case, because she was readmitted to a rehabilitation center by the police on Monday.
The court's agenda on Tuesday was to hear the prosecution's counter arguments.
'The prosecutors are still waiting for her lawyer to submit a letter from the Drug Addiction Treatment Hospital [RSKO] in Cibubur stating her condition,' said court registrar Heri Cahyono.
Prosecutor Bunjamin said they needed the letter from the hospital to determine whether the defendant had a mental illness.
'If the defendant was proven to suffer from a mental illness, we could re-reconsider the prosecution,' he said.
Novi was brought to court for alleged reckless driving that injured seven people as she drove under the influence of alcohol and drugs on Jl. Sukarjo Wiryopranoto in Central Jakarta in October 2012.
The trial had been long delayed because Novi was still undergoing treatment until she could be declared fit to stand trial.
Novi, 25, was brought to the Menteng subprecinct police office in Central Jakarta on Monday by a cab driver because he was confused about where to take Novi who had been ranting onboard.
'They just went around at dawn, so he took her to the nearest police office,' said Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto on Tuesday.
Rikwanto said that Novi ranted and bit her arms at the police station.
'She also tried to undress herself, so the police handcuffed her,' he said, adding that the police had brought Novi to RSKO Cibubur.
It was the third time that Novi had been brought to the police station.
In July, an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver brought Novi to the Mampang subprecinct police office in South Jakarta because she went berserk and tried to undress herself while on the moving vehicle.
Novi had another breakdown in September at her boarding house in Setiabudi, South Jakarta. She threatened to strip down and cut her artery using a piece of glass. Setiabudi police officers gave her tranquilizers to calm her down and sent her to drug addiction treatment hospital RSKO Cibubur in East Jakarta.
Novi was discharged from the rehabilitation center on Sept. 13, but was suggested to undergo a regular check-up with the Psychiatric Hospital (RSJ) in Grogol, West Jakarta. She would have a urine test on Tuesday to check whether or not she consumed drugs, Rikwanto said. (nai)
