he city's commuter line operator will start to operate two new electric trains plying the Jakarta-Bogor route in early December, PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) technical director Sucipto Susilo Hadi said over the weekend.
'We're testing the trains and redecorating the cars. We expect a certificate from the Transportation Ministry to be issued in time with a plan to operate the trains,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The trains were part of 180 units of rolling stock imported from Japan, 50 of which had arrived since November.
Sucipto said more rolling stock would arrive next month. The rolling stock was produced by JR Trec, a subsidiary and manufacturer for the East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
A new fleet has become a priority for the Jakarta-Bogor route as it transports up to 50 percent of daily commuters to the capital, while some of the existing trains require repairs.
However, according to KCJ communication manager Eva Chairunisa, the company would not add more trips to the route as the new fleets would temporarily be used as a reserve.
