Public transportation plan gains momentum

idayatullah Wahyu Dewanto, a councilor from the People'€™sConscience (Hanura) Party, is supporting the city administration'€™s plan thatrequires all officials and civil servants to take public transportation once aweek to and from their places of work.

'€œWe appreciate the quick response of Deputy Governor Basuki '€˜Ahok'€™ Tjahaja Purnama, who said he was considering a requirement for officials and civil servants not to use their own private cars or official cars to go to the office once a week,'€ he said here on Tuesday.

The idea came from a number of councilors, who urged the city administration to set a day where civil servants were not allowed to use their cars, in a move to help reduce traffic in the city.

Wahyu said such a policy would not only help ease Jakarta'€™s traffic problems but also encourage officials and civil servants to set a good example to residents and express solidarity with those using public transportation, including Transjakarta and public minivans.

'€œCity officials should not only speak about public transportation in the city being safe and comfortable. They should at least once a week take Transjakarta to their offices,'€ he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
