Golkar could win big, Bakrie says

G

olkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie said on Monday thathis party'€™s strong presence in rural areas could help it win a significantnumber of seats through the legislative election.

'€œGolkar is still strong in the regions, so we are confident that we can win 170 seats at the House [of Representatives],'€ Aburizal said on Monday.

Aburizal visited Palu to introduce himself to voters in the city. Golkar has officially nominated Aburizal for the 2014 presidential election.

A political party or a group of political parties wishing to field a presidential candidate has to win at least 20 percent of the popular votes at the April 9 legislative election or 25 percent of 560 seats at the House.

A new public opinion poll released earlier this month by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shows that if a presidential election took place today, Aburizal would get 9 percent of the votes.
