Two ships collide in Malacca Strait

The Batam Port Office has reported that two container ships collided early Monday in the Malacca Strait.

Batam Port harbormaster Jhon Kenedy said Italian-flagged MV Hanjin, which was transporting shipping containers, and fuel ship MT AI Garrafa collided on international waters between Batam and Singapore.

'€œThe incident occurred on the Malacca Strait. The sides of the two large vessels touched. Both vessels asked to be tugged to Singapore,'€ Jhon told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

He said the two vessels had arrived in Singapore. No fatalities were reported.

'€œWe have also monitored that no pollution was cause by the incident,'€ said Jhon. (ebf)
