hough a date has yet to be set, bus and taxi companies are readying their fleets for the reassignment of several commercial flights to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang.
State-owned bus operator Perum Damri corporate secretary Ali Umar said on Tuesday that his company had prepared around 30 new large and mid-sized buses to run from Halim to seven city destinations, including Gambir in Central Jakarta, Blok M in South Jakarta, Rawamangun and Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta and Bekasi.
'For the first phase, we will serve only seven routes but we will increase it up to 19 routes with 55 units for the second phase,' he said.
Ali added that his company had not set bus schedules as they would by set to correspond with flight
arrivals and departures.
'We will wait until the airlines announce the flight schedule,' he said.
Ali said the firm would also provide extra buses to run from Soekarno-Hatta to Halim in anticipation of passengers going to the wrong airport during the first days of the change.
The Transportation Ministry has planned to reassign 82 out of the 1,120 daily flights that go through Soekarno-Hatta.
The plan seeks to take some of the pressure off Soekarno-Hatta, which frequently has delays and blackouts due to overcrowding.
So far, only three airlines ' national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, low-cost carrier Citilink Indonesia and continental budget airline Air Asia ' have expressed interest in moving some of their domestic flight traffic to Halim.
The Transportation Ministry previously announced, however, that it might delay the shift, which was originally planned for Friday, as several airlines were not ready to move their operations.
The spokesperson of taxi operator Blue Bird Group, Teguh Widjayanto, said his company was ready to provide two types of taxi ' regular and executive ' to the airport.
Teguh said serving Halim would not be a problem as the company had two cab pools near the airport, located on Jl. Sutoyo and near Kampung Makassar.
'If the demand is high, it will be easier for us to fill it,' he said.
Jakarta Transportation Agency head, Udar Pristono, said he had not received any information regarding traffic and transportation management from airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II. 'They have conveyed the reassignment plan but I have heard nothing about a traffic management plan,' he said.
Udar said the traffic around Halim was not bad but with the additional flights, the number of cars would increase.
'There will be around 1,200 passengers per day. If all passengers take private cars or taxis, 1,200 more cars will jam the roads.'
He suggested the airport management create a serious plan to address access to Halim.
'Many things could be improved, including fixing intersections, so the flow of vehicles will run smoothly,' he said.
