espite the absence of backing from the local council, theSouth Tangerang administration reopened the long-abandoned Pondok Cabe busterminal.
Councilors would not give the project their support as they were concerned the bus terminal could exacerbate traffic congestion.
However, the outcome of a closed door meeting involving the South Tangerang Transportation Agency, the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda), the local military and police on Monday called for the bus terminal to be reestablished.
'We will monitor the situation [with regards to traffic] with a particular focus on inter-province buses that tend to stop anywhere, anytime,' South Tangerang Transportation Agency head Sukanta said Tuesday.
Yusro Siregar from Organda said, although it supported the move, the city administration should consider providing another terminal for public minivans as well.
'It will make it easier to transfer to public minivans after leaving the inter-province buses,' he said. (dic)
