My gadget: Tanta Ginting: Cannot stay away from his iPhone

Young and promising actor Tanta Ginting is busy with his new upcoming feature film, Negeri Tanpa Telinga (Nation without Ears).

While busy with his daily activities, the actor, who made a noticeable debut in Hanung Bramantyo'€™s Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka (Sukarno: Free Indonesia) last year, considers his iPhone his most important possession as it meets all his needs '€” from a basic communication gadget to Internet connection when he is away from home.

When he is at home, he relies on his Apple MacBook Pro laptop to surf the Web, watch YouTube clips and store his music.

iPhone 4S

I think about 80 percent of my daily communication and Internet needs are met by my iPhone. It'€™s an efficient device.

Initially, I was a BlackBerry person. Yet, once someone gave me an iPhone, I chose to stick with it. Honestly, I feel lost when my iPhone is inactive because of a flat battery.

The phone number I have in this gadget is my primary one. I also use the phone to put updates on social media and stay abreast of the news.

Occasionally, I access YouTube on iPhone to watch videos of interest '€” I'€™m currently into Brazilian jiu-jitsu, so I often watch the martial art-related videos.

I also play games on my iPhone, such as Candy Crush and Clash of Clan. Basically, I'€™m a game freak. Probably because I'€™m a competitive person, I like to play games. I used to have an Xbox game console, but I don'€™t have it now because I'€™m focusing on building my career.

BlackBerry smartphone

It is my secondary communication device. I keep it on me because most of contacts are saved on this device. I'€™m not planning to move my BlackBerry contacts to iPhone simply because the iPhone is my primary number. Besides, if my iPhone battery runs out when I'€™m away, people can still contact me on my BlackBerry.

MacBook Pro laptop

I used to work on either my personal computer or my MacBook Pro laptop at home. However, my PC broke and now I only use the laptop.

I don'€™t have a television at home because it would distract me from my work. So, whenever I need to access the news or informational videos, I go to YouTube. The laptop is the best device for that. For me, YouTube has its own strengths when compared to TV stations. It provides you with anything you need, and you have control over what you watch.

From Brazilian jiu-jitsu to cooking videos, you can choose.

Peripherals

A complete charger set if I'€™m away from home for long, or simply an extra battery for my iPhone for daily activities.

I learned that iPhone 4S devices often have problems with Wi-Fi. One time, mine didn'€™t work and I was curious as to why. So I went to YouTube and searched for clues and ways to fix it. A tutorial video advised blow drying an iPhone with a hairdryer and then putting it in the freezer. Surprisingly, it worked!

Just recently, my co-star Lukman Sardi had the same problem with his iPhone. I suggested the method to him. So when someone had a makeup session, we borrowed a hairdryer from the makeup team, blow dried his iPhone and put it in the freezer. Again, it worked.
