Jambi a drug transit city, BNN says

Jambi city has been categorized as a transit city for various narcotics and other illicit drugs but has yet to become a production center.

'€œThe drugs are being shipped between Aceh and Jakarta mostly by land or through various rivers,'€ Jambi Narcotics Agency chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Try Setiadi told Antara news agency on Thursday.

'€œSome of the drugs are also being unloaded in Jambi city.'€

Try said there had been no indications that the city has become a production center for drugs.

'€œUsually the perpetrators would survey an area to decide whether the place is suitable for producing narcotics,'€ said  Try.

He added that the agency would be take a firm stance in eradicating drug distribution in the city including distribution  involving corrupt police. (idb)
