Warung Bunana – Kerobokan, Jimbaran, Sanur

Specializes in Indian-Malaysian cuisine, serving dishes like roti canai (canai flatbread), curry and milk tea.

Despite its small space, Warung Bunana stands out by serving quality food for good value; prices range between Rp 6,000 and Rp 15,000. Warung Bunana already has three branches in Bali.

Warung Sari Alam – Denpasar

Its specialty is Tilapia fish, engulfed in spices and herbs, barbecued or fried. For a whole medium-size fish, pay around Rp 20,000.

Warung Dewa – Ubud

While Jl. Gaotama is packed with great restaurants, Warung Dewa holds its own by selling a varied menu of meals at an affordable price. Its quality is never in question; the certificate from the TripAdvisor website hanging on the wall is proof of customer satisfaction.

Gula Bali, The Joglo – Denpasar

For those seeking a light lunch, this is the perfect spot to visit and hang out. It is a semi-outdoor restaurant built under a joglo (traditional Javanese pavilion-style house). Despite its quite small portions, Gula Bali attracts heaps of customers because of the laidback ambience that the place provides.

You can find Gula Bali selling food until 5 p.m. on Jl. Merdeka II, tucked away from the main road.

Arkenzi – Denpasar

This looks like a regular food stall from outside, but the inside reveals an authentic sushi stall from Japan – and it’s pretty clean, too.

Owner Puji spent 17 years working for a spare parts company in Japan. But he also made time to learn the art of making sushi.

Visit Jl. Teuku Umar Barat to test Puji’s sushi-making skills.

Warung Sak Ade – Gianyar

Friendly faces, plenty of choices, delicious local delicacies and cheap prices are the features that have made Warung Sak Ade the true embodiment of Indonesia’s down-to-earth culinary scene.

Upon ordering your food, you will be greeted by the friendly owner,Desak Made Oka Yuni. Then you will be able to choose from a wide variety of dishes, such as grilled chicken, corn fritters, pork sausage, freshwater fish and many more. The price depends on the combination of foods you have on your plate.

Rumah Iga 7 Jari – Denpasar

Literally means “house of the seven-finger ribs”; although the spicy grilled ribs that they serve do not exactly come with seven big bones, they still aren’t that far off and only cost you Rp 38,500.

Warung Kanza – Ubud

This small restaurant on the corner of a street in Ubud serves yummy grilled ribs for one third of the price that is charged by the town’s most popular ribs diner.

The grilled pork ribs at Warung Kanza cost Rp 35,000 and you can find them on Jl. Andong, north of the Arjuna statue intersection. But you will probably be fighting for a seat.

Bebek Van Java – Nusa Dua

Duck is the main event here. Its prices mean that Bebek Van Java is a great alternative to the more pricey duck restaurants that are famous in Ubud.

The restaurant can be found in the Nusa Dua area, north of Benoa intersection.

Be Pasih – Denpasar

One or two big tourist buses can often be found parked in front of what might seem like a fancy restaurant. However, Be Pasih’s claim to fame is that it serves dishes in excellent portions and at a great price.

Each package that they sell, including chicken and fish meals, comes with an extra serving of fish soup or other side dishes. However, none of the packages cost more than Rp 50,000. Fish is their specialty, as denoted by the eatery’s name in Balines.

ruth be told, finding an affordable meal in Bali is not really a difficult thing; the challenge lies in finding one where the place is also comfortable and attractive.

If you are an open-minded sort, and do not mind dealing with open gutters or smoke, dust and flies, then there are plenty of roadside food stalls available.

If you are a pickier diner, then the good news is that better restaurants are not necessarily a huge jump in price.

The Jakarta Post Travel picks several dining spots which are pocketbook-friendly and relatively clean. Give them a try.

Warung Liku '€“ Denpasar, Kuta

This restaurant'€™s delicious ayam betutu (roasted chicken) makes you wonder why other dining spots'€™ charge so much more for a less tastier version.

A serving (complete with the rice, vegetables and chili) only sets you back Rp 12,000. Their spot on Jl. Gandapura III F No. 10, is only the size of a small garage; their branch on Jl. Nakula in Kuta is considerably bigger. Both shops get quite busy at lunchtime with plenty of locals and tourists.

Warung Garasi '€“ Ubud

Although the image of a garage is usually off-putting as a place to eat, Warung Garasi proves that assumption wrong.

You will still find some vehicles at the onetime garage, but they now serve as the decoration.

Grab some local food at Warung Garasi, located on Jl. Monkey Forest in Ubud.

Ikan Bakar Asri '€“ Denpasar

You may assume that a restaurant located next to splendid greenery of ricefields would charge extra for the view, but not in this case.

Ikan Bakar Asri sells its set of grilled fish package for only Rp 19,000. They also offer the fish by the kilogram.

Ikan Bakar Asri is at Jl. Hayam Wuruk.
