he number of known drug abusers in Jambi province hasreached 50,420 people this year, excluding those serving jail time, mentallyill patients and people living with HIV/AIDS, the province's National DrugAgency chief, Sr. Comr. M. Yamin, said on Thursday.
'The province ranked sixth at the national level in 2012, decreasing to 12 last year. But the number of drug abusers is still high, including at government institutions,' Yamin told reporters.
Yamin revealed that 18,615 people died a year, or 51 a day, of drug abuse in Jambi.
He said the number of people living with HIV/AIDS contracted through intravenous drug use reached 1,050 while 100 to 300 people were mentally ill due to drug abuse.
