orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Bambang Widjoyanto said on Tuesday that the antigraft body had recorded a high level of corruption in Papua.
When compared to other provinces such as West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Gorontalo, he said, more investigations focused on Papua.
'The KPK is currently not investigating any graft allegations in NTB, NTT, and Gorontalo,' Bambang told Antara news agency.
Bambang said that Papua was among the provinces showing indications of having a high number of corruption cases because it received huge amount of Special Autonomy (Otsus) fund.
'Corruption cases from other funds are also high,' he said, adding that the KPK would follow-up on other alleged corruption cases in Papua.
Regents from Yapen Islands, Boven Digul and Supiori had been implicated in corruption cases by embezzling the regency budgets in their respective regency.
The KPK was established in 2003 by the Law No. 20/2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission. (atw/nvn)
