Ballot distribution to be finished on March 20, KPU says

T

he General Elections Commission (KPU) has said that it aims to distribute ballots to all regional elections commission (KPUD) offices across the country by March 20 although the ballot printing process is only 78 percent complete.

'€œBy March 20, the ballots should be completely distributed,'€ KPU commissioner Sigit Pamungkas told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

The commissioner said he was optimistic that the target would be achieved, given that most ballots available had already been distributed to KPUD offices at provincial, municipal and regency levels. He added that remote areas would be the prioritized.

Sigit said March 20 was targeted so the KPU would have enough time to deal with any troubles that might emerge before the April 9 election day.

'€œWe hope to overcome any issues that may spring up three days before election day,'€ he said.

Sigit said the KPU would coordinate with the National Police to ensure the ballots were distributed safely.

'€œThe printing companies will handle ballot distribution while the police will provide security,'€ he said. (idb/ebf)
