he Democratic Party's (PD) ongoing convention, to select the party'€™s presidential candidate, will pause'€” March 16 to April 5 '€” so the party can concentrate on the legislative election, a committee member says.

'€œWe are concentrating on the legislative election,'€ the convention committee secretary, Suaidi Marasabessy, said as reported by kompas.com on Tuesday.

Suaidi added that so far the debates had been held in Medan, Palembang, Bandung, Denpasar, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Bogor and Makassar. The ninth city was Ambon, which hosted the debate at the Islamic Center on Tuesday.

Actually, he said, there were three more cities scheduled to host the Democratic Party'€™s convention.

'€œ[It will all be] useless ['€¦] if lose the legislative election,'€ Suaidi said.

After the presidential-candidate debate, the convention committee will review each candidate'€™s electability. The results will be submitted to the party'€™s high council, which will in turn announch the results to the public.

Party spokesman Ruhut Sitompul said the eventual presidential candidate would not be chosen based solely on the survey. He added that good track record would be an important factor. (put/nvn)
