Aburizal not worried about Jokowi'€™s electability

olkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie, who is also the party'€™s presidential candidate, has said he is not worried about the high electability rating of Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle'€™s (PDI-P) presidential candidate, by several surveys.

'€œPak Jokowi is my good friend and my younger brother. I know him well. Everything is normal during such a contest,'€ Aburizal told journalists on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He was speaking before attending an open campaign at Kuncup square in Pringsewu, Lampung.

Aburizal said he was not disturbed by several surveys that had placed Jokowi as the most popular presidential candidate. He said everything was possible during an election campaign and experiences in several countries showed that securing a top position in a survey did not guarantee success.

Citing the US presidential election as an example, Aburizal said Hillary Clinton bested her competitor, US President Barack Obama, in several surveys.

'€œHowever, twenty days ahead of polling day, support for Obama exceeded Clinton'€™s,'€ he said.

Therefore, the businessman added, he took the competition against Jokowi or other presidential candidates as a normal thing and had not prepared any special strategy. (ebf)
