Aburizal sets off to campaign in E. Jakarta

A

white helicopter carrying Golkar chairman and presidential candidate Aburizal Bakrie and his entourage landed on a soccer field in the Ciracas Sports Complex in East Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon.

The helicopter took him from Bogor, West Java, where Aburizal started his campaign on the third day of the national campaign period.

He arrived one-and-a-half hours later than his scheduled arrival time of 1 p.m, while thousands of Golkar supporters had flocked to the complex since 11 a.m.

Only a small number of children were seen in the arena following warnings from the Elections Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) over the huge number of children being used in the campaigns of various political parties from Sunday to Monday.

Aburizal repeated his pledges to his audience if Golkar won the election, such as free education for 12 years and a return of the New Order glory years under the Suoeharto regime.

Accompanying Aburizal were his wife, Tatty Bakrie, as well as their sons, Anindya Novyan Bakrie and Ardiansyah Bakrie, who was accompanied by his wife, actress Nia Ramadhani.

Also campaigning together with Aburizal were Golkar's advisory council head and former chairman, Akbar Tandjung, secretary-general Idrus Marham, deputy secretary-general Erwin Aksa, party executives Fuad Masyhur Hasan and Rizal Malaranggeng and Golkar legislative candidates Tantowi Yahya and actor Charles Bonar Sirait.

Aburizal is set to tour several cities in Sumatra on Wednesday and Thursday.
