Drugs kill three at rave party

Three people died of alleged drug overdoses at A State of Trance rave party at Ancol, North Jakarta, on Sunday morning.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the three victims '€” two Indonesians and one Singaporean '€” allegedly consumed ecstasy and amphetamines prior to the event.

The two Indonesian victims were Ricky Maahir Muhammad, 18, of West Jakarta, and Isti Rahmawati, 19, of Depok, West Java. They were buried on Monday. The Singaporean was identified as Chua Wen Hu, 27. The three did not know each other.

Rikwanto explained that the victims were pronounced dead at Mitra Kemayoran Hospital in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Sunday,

'€œAt some point during the event, the three victims also bought and consumed vodka. They lost consciousness,'€ Rikwanto said on Monday.

Police arrested one partygoer for reportedly smuggling six ecstasy pills into the venue. The arrest was unrelated to the deaths.

The A State of Trance rave party was held by Ismaya Live at Carnaval Beach from Saturday night to early Sunday morning and featured internationally renowned DJs Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Andrew Rayel and John O'€™Callaghan.
