Sky Aviation stops flying

Domestic carrier Sky Aviation has been forced to stop flying temporarily until new investors inject funds to support its operations.

'€œYes, we are stopping our services temporarily. We are still waiting to have more discussions with new investors,'€ Sky Aviation general marketing manager Sutito Zainudin said on Wednesday via text message, as quoted by Tribunnews.com.

When the airline will return to the skies again remains unclear. Sutito only said that '€œ[the issue] is being discussed and [the decision] will be communicated [later]'€.

As previously reported, 105 Sky Aviation passengers who wished to go to Pontianak, West Kalimantan, from Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday had to postpone their trips after all Sky Aviation flight services across the archipelago were canceled.

The company'€™s Natuna district manager, Yati Erawani, said that she heard about the cancellation at 8 a.m.

'€œWe were not informed earlier and I got this information from our passengers in Batam. Sky Aviation flight services are stopping today [Wednesday],'€ she said.

In total, there were 83 passengers hoping to fly to Batam and 22 passengers who wanted to travel to Pontianak with the airline.

'€œWe have already received the money to refund the passengers who wished to go to Pontianak. But we have not yet received [money to refund] those who wanted to go to Batam,'€ she added.

She said that the district team was currently waiting for further information from the central management.

Sky currently operates three Sukhoi SuperJet 100s, five Fokker F50s, one Fokker 100, one Cessna Caravan and one Cirrus SR-22. (nfo)
