PPP ready to discuss coalition with Gerindra

T

he Islamic-based United Development Party'€™s (PPP) secretary general, Roahurmuziy, says the party is open to the possibility of forming a coalition with the Gerindra Party in the 2014 presidential election.

'€œThe PPP has opened up all possibilities, including building political cooperation with Gerindra, and is still open to discussing a possible coalition with the party,'€ he said in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Romahurmuziy asked people not to exaggerate the presence of PPP chairman Suryadharma Ali at the Gerindra rally at the Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

He said Suryadharma'€™s presence at the rally was only to show the bonds of friendship between him and Gerindra chief patron Prabowo Subianto.

'€œOn the presidential election, the PPP'€™s executive board will still refer to decisions made in the second national meeting [Mukernas] and the national leaders'€™ meeting [Rapimnas], which will be held after the legislative election,'€ said Romahurmuziy.

He said PPP members in the regions had not discussed cooperating with Gerindra, despite a readiness to build political cooperation with the party, and that they were still focused on winning the upcoming election.

'€œThey are concentrating on the 2014 legislative election and have not yet paid close attention to the [PPP-Gerindra] coalition issue,'€ said Romahurmuziy.

In his remarks at the Gerindra rally, Suryadharma said there was a great hope of change in Indonesia in the future. He said the PPP considered that Gerindra had chosen the right candidate to be the next Indonesian leader, namely Prabowo. (ebf)
