China-based electronics producer Haier plans to commence the operation of a cellular phone factory in Indonesia this year
China-based electronics producer Haier plans to commence the operation of a cellular phone factory in Indonesia this year.
"They have set a target to begin the operation [of the factory] by the end of this year," the Industry Ministry's director general for high-technology priority industries Budi Darmadi said as quoted by Kontan.co.id on Tuesday.
The factory is located within the Haier plant in Cikarang, West Java. The firm has injected US$800,000 for the new production line.
Apart from producing Haier smartphones, the new facilities will be used to produce Android headsets for cellular phone operator Smartfren.
Smartfren is collaborating with the Chinese company to produce its latest Andromax series.
The opening of the new facility will help to accelerate the production of Smartfren units.
Indonesia imported 60 million cellular phones throughout last year. (nfo)
