olkar Party chairman and presidential candidate Aburizal Bakrie has rejected reports predicting a change of party leadership in the near future, saying that all Golkar officials were concentrating on winning the legislative and presidential elections.
'Someone has come up with the idea that there will be a leadership change, which is not the case,' he told journalists in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Aburizal is in Kupang as part of his campaign tour to eastern Indonesia, which also included Makassar, South Sulawesi and Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
He said Golkar was being painted by false rumors depicting that the party was facing an internal rift.
Aburizal said party officials were not in fact affected by such an issue, and would continue to work to win the upcoming elections.
He added that he would remain the party's chairman through 2015, and would not be stepping down before his term ended. (ebf)
