he Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has said that the final decision on his running mate would be his.
'We have a team that will determine the vice presidential candidate criteria. They will come up with several names and whittle them down to three. I will then make the final decision,' he told reporters at the JKW4P media center in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
When asked about who would be his personal preference, Jokowi declined to answer.
'Age or non military background doesn't matter. It can be anyone: Economist, politician, businessman, military man or even journalist,' he said.
Jokowi previously said that the PDI-P was open to a coalition.
'Talks [with other parties] usually start at midnight,' Jokowi said Wednesday evening.
He also explained that the party would utilize a different strategy for the presidential election.
'Just now our first meeting discussed the planning and organization management,' he said after a meeting involving a number of party associates, including Prananda Prabowo, the son of PDI-P's chief patron Megawati Soekarnoputri; graft activist Teten Masduki; and international law expert Andi Widjajanto.
