Govt to survey wind-powered plant potential in Sumatra: Ministry

T

he Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will conduct a survey on its planned wind-powered plant, PLT Bayu, to be built on the west coast of northern Sumatra as part of its efforts to develop the country's renewable energy resources.

"The western coast of Sumatra borders directly with the Indian Ocean. This area always has winds," the ministry's renewable energy director,Alihudin Sitompul, said as quoted by kontan.co.id on Monday.

He said that the survey would take around two years.

After gathering data on wind potential, the ministry would propose the PLT Bayu project to any investor interested in capturing the country's renewable energy sector.

Indonesia has one PLT Bayu in Sukabumi, West Java, with a total capacity of 250 megawatts while a company is currently developing a plant in Yogyakarta with a capacity of 50 megawatts. (nfo)
