he National Awakening Party (PKB) has offered to form an alliance with the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) by putting forward a candidate to fill the vice presidential position, an offer it said was reasonable due to the PKB'€™s good performance in the recent legislative election.

'€œIt'€™s reasonable for us as a party with a high number of votes to offer a vice presidential candidate. We'€™ve proposed this to the PDI-P,'€ said the head of the PKB'€™s central executive board Marwan Jafar on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that with securing 9 percent of the vote based on the quick count results in the legislative election on April 9, the PKB would be a key factor in the coalition.

However, he said his party was not only talking to the PDI-P, with coalition discussions still fluid.

There are three vice presidential candidates in the PKB, who according to Marwan are suitable for the position: dangdut singer Rhoma Irama, former vice president Jusuf Kalla and former Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD.

Besides the three names, Marwan said the party'€™s chairman, Muhaimin Iskandar, could be another potential vice presidential candidate.

'€œIt'€™s normal if the chairman is endorsed as a vice presidential candidate because he will be able to directly manage his staff in the House of Representatives,'€ he said.

PDI-P presidential candidate and Jakarta Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo visited the PKB'€™s headquarters in Jakarta on Saturday. (idb)
