tate-owned electricity company PT PLN is short 22 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) needed to meet the fuel needs of power plants in 2015.
PLN fuel and gas division head Suryadi Mardjoeki said in Jakarta on Sunday that the total number of LNG needed in 2015 was predicted to reach 56 cargoes.
'There is a supply assurance of 34 cargoes of the total LNG needed but there is still a shortage of 22 cargoes for next year,' he added as quoted by Antara news agency.
Suryadi said PLN had asked the government to fill the LNG shortage.
'We hope there is immediate assurance on this matter. If not, we will fill the shortage from imports; but for the time being, we will first prioritize the domestic suppliers,' he said.
Suryadi said that 22 cargoes of total gas supplies already available for 2015 were from Badak field in Bontang, East Kalimantan, while the remaining 12 cargoes were from Tangguh, Papua.
He said 22 of the total 56 cargoes needed in 2015 would be used to supply steam-fueled and gas power plant (PLTGU) Tanjung Priok, followed by PLTGU Belawan (12 cargoes); PLTGU Muara Karang (8 cargoes); PLTGU Muara Tawar (8 cargoes); as well as power plants in Bali and Makassar, which needed 6 cargoes each.
It is predicted that the company's LNG need will increase to 60 cargoes in 2016.
Suryadi said PLN would sign a gas selling agreement with BP Berau Ltd, which manages Tangguh, on April 23. In the first stage, he said, PLN would get an annual allocation of 12 cargoes of gas from Tangguh.
'After the third train is completed, Tangguh gas supply will increase to 18 cargoes and further 24 cargoes,' said Ali. (ebf)
