tate-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina is planning to complete its program to convert subsidized kerosene into 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters this year.
Pertamina vice president for domestic gas Gigih Wahyu Hari said to that end, the company believed it would have distributed at least 57.7 million kiloliters of LPG by the end of the year.
"Seven years ago when we started the program, we had set a target to provide 58 million kiloliters output by 2014 and we predict that we can produce 57.7 million kiloliters by the end of the year," Gigih said in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the conversion program would reduce the use of kerosene from 12 million kiloliters in 2007 to 900,000 kiloliters by the end of 2014.
The program has also reduced kerosene subsidies by Rp 115.6 trillion (US$10.02 billion) over seven years. By the end of 2013, Pertamina had distributed 55.3 million kiloliters LPG. (nfo)
