upiah-traded interbanks in Jakarta on Friday afternoon appreciatedby 49 basis points to 11,548 per US dollar, up from the previous 11,597.
Monex Investindo Futures head of research Ariston Tjendra said that tension inUkraine had pushed investors to look for investment havens such as preciousmetals, putting pressure on the US dollar.
"This geopolitical factor has also reduced optimism toward US economicgrowth," Ariston said in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by Antaranews agency.
He said that generally the US dollar had tended to depreciate against a numberof currencies across the globe.
"Previously, the US dollar strengthened after its durable goodsorders data throughout March was better than expected," he said.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia (BI) data showed the rupiah at 11,601 per US dollarin the afternoon, from the previous 11,608. (nfo)
