esidents of Timika blocked a road heading to Kuala Kencana, Papua, demanding the police immediately capture and process two suspected-murderers, on Tuesday.

A resident, identified as Kruwet, was with another man, Daniel Namon, on Monday night when they were attacked by two unidentified men wielding machetes.

Daniel managed to flee the scene and locked himself in his house while Kruwet was severely wounded and died en route to hospital.

The Papua Regional Police are currently questioning two eye witnesses, Daniel and a woman named Sri Lestari.

Mimika Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Jeremias Rontini and Mimika Regent Alosius You negotiated with Supriadi, one of Timika residents who blocked the road. He agreed to clear the road as long as the police arrested the perpetrators within a month.

"The group had blocked the road since 9 a.m. but have taken down their tents after the negotiations. However, the National Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) remain at the scene," Papua Regional Police spokesman Sr. Comr Pudjo Sulistyo said. (fss/dic)
