oko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo will be declared officially inactive as Jakarta governor as of June 1. On the same day, he will be replaced by his deputy, Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnawa, as acting Jakarta governor.

'€œIn the existing law and government regulation [PP], it stipulates that any public official who is running for president must be inactive after the presidential candidacy is registered with the General Elections Commission (KPU),'€ said Ahok, after speaking with Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi in a meeting also attended by Jokowi on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Ahok was referring to Law No.42/2008 on presidential elections and PP No.18/2013 on leave of absence requirements.

The registration of presidential hopefuls will take place on May 18. The KPU will later conduct verification processes of all presidential candidates before it officially confirms them as candidates on May 31.

'€œAccording to the PP, however, one day after the date [May 31] Pak Jokowi will still be allowed to sign [any documents relating to his job as a governor]. This means I will be officially acting Jakarta governor as of June 2,'€ said Ahok.

He further said that Jokowi'€™s inactive status would last until Oct. 20, or until the end of the current president'€™s term of office. (ebf)
