Abraham Samad claims his vice presidential candidacy approved by KPK

C

orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Abraham Samad says the commission has given its blessing for him to become the running mate of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) presidential candidate, Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo.

According to Abraham, there have been no objections from inside the commission if he is nominated as Jokowi'€™s running mate.

'€œYes, it has been approved,'€ said Abraham in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

He claimed that he had directly consulted other KPK leaders on his plan to run in the upcoming presidential election.

'€œThe most important thing is for all KPK leaders to continue their struggle to eradicate corruption wherever they are,'€ said Abraham.

He further mentioned several former KPK leaders who were now working in other institutions, such as former deputy chairman M.Jasin who is now Religious Affairs Ministry inspector general; former deputy chairman Haryono Umar who is now the Education and Culture Ministry inspector general; and former KPK chairman Taufiequrachman Ruki who had served as Supreme Audit Agency deputy chairman.

'€œ All these positions have strategic functions, namely eradicating corruption,'€ said Abraham.

Earlier, KPK deputy chairmen Busyro Muqoddas and Zulkarnain said Abraham should stay in the commission until the end of his term of office in 2015.

Zulkarnain said Abraham'€™s responsibility as KPK chairman was to eradicate corruption in Indonesia and he hoped that his colleague could be committed to continue carrying out his duties. (fss/ebf)
