PPP threatens to withdraw support for Gerindra

T

he United Development Party (PPP) may take back its support of the Gerindra party if a Prabowo-Hatta ticket is announced without involving the PPP in the decision-making process.

PPP lawmaker Dimyati Natakusumah said the PPP had yet to be involved in talks about the potential vice president for Gerindra presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, as reported by kompas.com.

"A coalition must be built upon a united vision and mission. If it'€™s not in accordance with the PPP's characteristics as a party for the masses, then the PPP will leave ['€¦] because this party is for the people, so we must consult with the people," he said on Friday.

Dimyati said the PPP might consider pulling out of the coalition if they did not agree with the choice of Prabowo's running mate.

When asked about a possible partnership between Prabowo and former coordinating economic minister Hatta Rajasa, Dimyati said the National Mandate Party (PAN) had only nominated Hatta, and the final decision had yet to be discussed in the PPP's meetings.

Previously, PPP secretary-general Romahurmuziy was quoted to have said that they would leave the choice of vice presidential candidate entirely to Prabowo.

According to Gerindra chairman Suhardi, the final decision will be announced on Sunday. (fss)
