number of Indonesian expatriates living in Egypt spoke with vice-presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla via video link on Wednesday, conveying their support for the former vice president who is the running mate of presidential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

"We are declaring an alliance of Indonesians in Egypt to show our support for Jokowi and Kalla to become Indonesia's next president and vice president," said a student via the video conference.

Kalla, who received the statement at the so-called Jenggala Center, a base of Jokowi-Kalla supporters in Jakarta, expressed his gratitude.

"Thank you for your support. We share similar hopes for a better Indonesia," Kalla said, while being applauded by dozens of audience members in Egypt.

The expatriate group in Egypt claims to have hundreds of members, most of whom are students.
